Simon Wu

（Also goes by Simon Woo or Simon Xianyu Wu）

Simon graduated with distinction from the University of Hong Kong, specializing in filmmaking and content creation. He also studied method acting as an exchange student at the Shanghai Theatre Academy during his undergraduate studies. He is currently a master’s candidate in the Writer’s Program at Harvard University. About the practice, he is the Best Youth Actor of the Berlin International Art Film Festival and the Andy Warhol Ambassador in Chinese exhibition 2022. His debut film, The Blue Pleated Skirt (2021), won the Best Feature Film Award at the Five Continents International Film Festival and was nominated in the FIRST Film Festival‘s Main competition. The latest film Poet and Yu (2023) won the Script Award of the Screenplay Venture Competition of the Beijing International Internet Film Festival. As a director, his most recent feature film Under the River (2024) has finished shooting and is in post-production. The trailer and its extended experimental art exhibition was on display at the Happiness Showcase organised by HKU Guild on 4th May. Be located in Duplex Studio in Tai Kwun, Central, Hong Kong.

His recent academic article, “Dynamic Writing with A Flash of Inspiration: The Application and Future of Improvisation in Interactive Performative Writing,” won first prize in the Global Association of Chinese Creative Writing and was published in Chinese Creative Writing Studies in 2025.

About teaching, He had finished his teaching duties at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where he was honored as an Excellent Teacher, and moved to his latest position, tutoring master’s students on film and graduation projects at the School of English, the University of Hong Kong. And he is now dedicated to experimenting with fiction writing, new art moving images and experimental theatre.
